  • The Foundation for Rural Service sponsors an annual Youth Tour that brings together high school students from across rural America to visit our nation's capital and learn about rural telecommunications. The tour provides a forum for teens to meet and interact with peers from other rural communities. It also offers students an inside look at the telecommunications industry and educates them about the legislative and governmental process. Over the past 10 years, the FRS Youth Tour has hosted thousands of students in Washington, D.C.

Blackfoot is excited to offer this opportunity to two qualifying high school students! Students must be 16 or 17 years of age at the time of the Youth Tour, and their parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must be currently served by Blackfoot. Blackfoot will cover all travel expenses, including Youth Tour registration fees, round trip airfare and baggage fees, hotel and transportation in Washington, D.C. FRS will not accept any student age 18 or over; no exceptions will be made. Blackfoot will not provide the student with spending money.

To apply for the FRS Youth Tour, you must complete this online application, which includes one essay question. You are also required to submit the following documentation:

    1) One letter of recommendation from a teacher.
    2) One letter of recommendation from a community member or family friend.
    3) A letter of permission from the student's parent/guardian granting the student permission to travel to Washington, D.C.
    4) Proof of age, such as a driver's license or birth certificate.
    5) A current school photo.

FRS Application Deadline: February 25, 2017
